Find opportunities
Larger opportunities are posted publicly. Where you look and how you respond depends on the size and type of the purchase.
Where opportunities are posted
Open competitive procurements of $121,200 or more are advertised publicly. Two platforms carry them, and submissions run through a third.
MERX
Open competitive bids from the St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough campuses, and Facilities & Services.
Biddingo
Construction and major facilities opportunities from University Planning, Design & Construction (UPDC).
EUNA (Formerly Bonfire)
Where you submit your bid. Opportunities are posted on MERX or Biddingo, but responses are received through Bonfire.
Purchases under $121,200
Below the open-competition threshold, purchasing is decentralized — faculties and departments buy directly, often through an Invitation to Quote. These aren’t posted publicly, so the way in is to make yourself easy to find and quick to respond.
Use the University directory to identify relevant departments, market your goods and services to them directly, and register so you can be set up and paid once selected.
Responding to a bid
How to respond
Read the documents
Follow the instructions and evaluation criteria in the opportunity.
Submit through EUNA
Lodge your response in Bonfire before the stated deadline.
Ask early
Raise questions in the window the opportunity provides.
Compete on value
Price isn’t everything — quality, service, and total cost, count.
Another route in: group purchasing
The University buys a great deal through collaborative arrangements. When a product or service isn’t available from an existing Approved Supplier, departments look first to a group-purchasing agreement — so holding one is often the fastest way in.
Don’t miss this
Solicitation documents are posted on MERX or Biddingo, but bids are received through Bonfire. Always follow the submission instructions in the opportunity.
